GREAT AMERICAN DREAM BEGINS JUNE 1st

LOS ANGELES, CA Tom Wilson, the King of Sleep, will begin his dream to Sleep Across America on June 1st, 2003.  Wilson, the first man to sleep the entire span of the United States, will promote the benefits of sleep and raise awareness about common and sometimes dangerous sleep disorders.  To ensure that he only travels while sleeping, the King will be wired to a Cadwell Laboratories Polysomnograph by a certified sleep technician.  Upon the technician’s signal, the Sleep Mobile begins the journey eastward.  When the King wakes up, the Sleep Mobile stops; when he goes back to sleep, the Sleep Mobile begins again.

The King will slumber upon a Sleep Number® mattress by Select Comfort, the flagship sponsor for Sleep Across America.  In addition to the Select Number bed, the King of Sleep will be using Breathe Right® nasal strips, Leight Sleepers™ disposable earplugs and Veratex, Inc. bedding.

The King of Sleep reports, “the Sleep Mobile is now being readied with logos and will act as a ‘traveling billboard’ promoting both our sponsors and the benefits and techniques of good sleep.”  The King has also announced that as The Sleep Mobile travels across the country—beginning in Los Angeles and traveling through Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Denver, Omaha, Kansas City, St. Louis, Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and New York—a crew will follow promoting Sleep Across America at local television and radio stations, including visits to many of the stations on which he has already appeared.

Interviews with the King have aired on over 300 radio stations nationally from Fairbanks, Alaska to Jacksonville, Florida as well as in Australia, Canada, England and South Africa.  His story has been told in sleep-industry publications like Sleep Savvy Magazine and BedTimes and soon in FHM (For Him Magazine).

Wilson, founder of Los Angeles-based Nobody Productions which will document the week-long event, says, “I plan on sleeping through my hometown Chicago in June, where there will be a large conference commemorating the discovery of R.E.M. (Rapid Eye Movement), and waking up in New York, where I hope to do Letterman or one of the morning shows to wrap up the adventure.”
