MAN TO SLEEP ACROSS AMERICA
LOS ANGELES, CA
The self proclaimed King of Sleep will Sleep Across America early this summer in an attempt to raise awareness about sleep disorders. The first man to Sleep Across America vows, "I plan on sleeping across the country fast enough so that future sleepers have difficulty breaking my record. I’m one heck of a sleeper and I plan on proving it to the world."
Here’s how: When the King falls asleep--and the Snooze Technician confirms his slumber--a customized SleepMobile will leave Los Angeles and begin its journey eastward across America. But when the King awakes, the SleepMobile must stop. When, and ONLY when, the King again dozes off will the sleep mobile be allowed to proceed east. This continues across the heartland of America, all the way to New York City and into the Guinness Book of World Records. The King will have slept the span of this great country!
"I plan on sleeping through my hometown Chicago in June, where there will be a large conference of 2,500 sleep professionals commemorating the discovery of Rapid Eye Movement, and waking up in New York, where I hope to do Conan or Letterman or one of the morning shows to talk about sleep and wrap up the adventure," said Tom Wilson, the King of Sleep, and president of Los Angeles based film company Nobody Productions. Discovery/Health has already demonstrated an interest in the project, which will be documented by Nobody. "Along the way I hope to help some people by creating awareness about sleep disorders."
Narcolepsy, sleep apnea, insomnia, and restless leg syndrome are just some of the disorders that plague American sleepers. "Twenty million people suffer from sleep apnea," says Wilson, "Untreated, sleep apnea can cause high blood pressure and other cardiovascular disease, memory problems, weight gain, impotency. When you look at the numbers...well it really is a wake up call."
Several sponsors have already signed on and various private organizations and public foundations have committed their support to the project in order to help create awareness about sleep disorders. |
